ALAN BARNES , saxophonist, clarinettist and multi-winner in the British Jazz Awards is probably the most high-profile musician in Britain today! Described recently as both ‘the best saxophonist in the UK’ and also (by critic John Fordham) as ‘a man who, if he weren’t such a great player could probably make his living as a stand-up comedian’ Alan is as famous for his prolific recordings (on Woodville) including the ‘Copperfield’ and ‘Sherlock Holmes’ suites as he is for his playing which, over thirty or more years, has carried him from early years with the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, drummer Tommy Chase’s Quartet and the ‘Pizza Express Modern Jazz Sextet’ to collaborations with trumpeter Bruce Adams in their headlining Quintet plus distinguished solo contributions to such as Simon Spillett’s Orchestra and an endless round of solo appearances throughout the UK. Finding a spare date in Alan’s diary isn’t easy – but we’ve managed it and he will be at The Sands with our Rat Pack Trio for an unforgettable evening of great music. Book early for what will be a sell-out night on 01702 468123 (after 2pm) and remember – as always at The Sands – the music is FREE!!!
