CD INFORMATION:
Over fifty years Digby Fairweather has become one of the leading figures on the British jazz scene, as bandleader, solo performer, writer and broadcaster, as well as Founder/Lifelong Patron of the National Jazz Archive (Britain’s first research centre for jazz, 1988) and Founder/Creative Director of ‘The Jazz Centre UK’; Britain’s first-ever cultural centre for jazz, opened in Southend-on-Sea in 2016 to promote preserve and celebrate jazz music in all its forms. This 35-track-2-CD set on the international Trapeze/Acrobat label is the second volume of a retrospective of his career to date, compiled by Digby himself, and with substantial booklet notes written by him. It comprises recordings from across his career from 1979 and features recordings with a host of top names in British jazz including George |Melly, Julian Marc Stringle, Craig Milverton, John Barnes, Martin Litton, Roy Williams, Denny Wright, Ike Isaacs, Dominic Ashworth, Len Skeat, Brian Lemon, Stan Bourke, Tony Compton, Stan Barker, Chris Ellis and many more. It’s the second part of a musical overview of a significant career selected by the artist himself, and providing not only a showcase for his talents, but an entertaining insight into the British jazz scene across four decades.
