A DIXIELAND JUBILEE AT ‘SANDS BY THE SEA’

This month at ‘Sands by the Sea’ we’re presenting an all-star DIXIELAND JUBILEE! Joining me will be CHRIS GOWER (trombone), who’s played with my pollwinning Half Dozen for the past twenty years (he also plays with Shakin’ Stevens and Suzi Quatro – the old rocker!) and on clarinet: one of (in my opinion!) the world’s truly great jazz clainettists, TIM HUSKISSON, moving out from his regular role as pianist in what we fondly call our ‘RAT PACK RHYTHM SECTION’ – well we do play at ‘The Sands’! – to join us in the front-line. On guitar we’ll have the legendary PAUL SEALEY whose career (despite his youthful looks!) began in the 1960s with legends including Nat Gonella but who moved on to work with CHRIS BARBER for around twenty years from 1994, and whose versatile gifts have allowed him, over the years, to play and record with musicians as diverse as Ken Colyer and Alan Elsdon to endless American visitors including (notably) cornettist Ruby Braff who asked for Paul to accompany him on all his British tours; a very big acknowledgement of his talents! Completing our band are our fine resident rhythm section: Roger Curphey (double bass) and Alan Clarke (drums). At The Sands we are lucky enough to be pretty full every month so I’d recommend prior booking for a table: call (01702) 468123 and you’ll find plenty of free parking after 6pm on Southend seafront. Address of the club is: Icon Building, Adventure Island, Western Esplanade, SOUTHEND SS1 1EE; the dining is superb (from 7.15) and the music – thanks to my great friend Philip Miller – is FREE! Looking forward to seeing you!!
