There can’t be a busier or better saxophonist in Britain than DEREK NASH – the very special guest opening our 2023 season at Sands by the Sea. Apart from his star residency for many years with JOOLS HOLLAND’S RHYTHM AND BLUES ORCHESTRA Derek is the creative force behind his superb ‘SAX APPEAL’ group and also more lately his latin-based ensemble ‘PICANTE’ which he shares with another of our favourite visitors, guitarist Dominic Ashworth. Tonight he’s joined by our Rat Pack Rhythm Section: Tim Huskisson (piano) Roger Curphey (double bass) and Alan Clarke (drums) and I’m looking forward to sharing the stand with my old friend who happens to believe, as I do, that playing jazz is (as I’m told Will Shakespeare once said) ‘just about the most fun you can have with your clothes on!’.
