For many years the Half Dozen and I have called Wavendon ‘the jazz corner of the world!’. I played there back in 1976 when Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine held their concerts in the converted stable behind their home in The Old Rectory, and all of us have watched that project grow into the magnificent Laine-Dankworth Stables Theatre which hosts over 350 concerts a year honouring John and Cleo’s lifetimes’ celebration of ‘all-music’. So on Wednesday February 15th 2023 DIGBY FAIRWEATHER’S HALF DOZEN makes their delighted return to The Stables celebrating their twenty-eigth performing year; their twelth award for ‘Top Small Group’ in the British Jazz Awards (2005-2006/2008-2016/2019!) and their new tour called ‘THE ROAD WELL TRAVELLED’! Promising you ‘red-hot rhythms, sweet songs and samba’ (plus much else from Dixieland to Swing and some of the nicest show tunes!) the Half Dozen features founder-members JULIAN MARC STRINGLE (reedsvocals) CHRIS GOWER (trombone) CRAIG MILVERTON (piano/keyboards/vocals) DOMINIC ASHWORTH (guitars/vocals) plus newer arrivals AL SWAINGER (bass) and NEIL BULLOCK (drums). For tickets please call the Box Office: 01908 280800 and we look forward to seeing you at one of the world’s greatest venues! Our show starts at 8pm and tickets are £22.00 in the great Jim Marshall Main Auditorium!
